Matthew Butler is a trained Industrial Designer and former studio manager
for Tom Dixon in London.
Matthew heads his own furniture company named Bluesquare
with clients including the Sydney Olympic Games, Mamara Hotel in New York and
the Brisbane International Airport. Since 2004 Matthew has been running the Zaishu
project – a socially responsible art / design program working with artists around the
globe including India, Argentina, Japan, Europe and Australia. Matthew is concerned
with how a designer can ethically practice in these times of consumerism to avoid environmental and human exploitation.
In 2011 Matthew worked for 12 months with village artisans in Cambodia and founded the fair trade ‘Artful Boxer’ menswear label to divert Cambodian women from sweatshop labour. Matthew has 15 years experience teaching and speaking about design at Universities in Australia, USA and NID in India.
