Urban Innovation District is a visioning project shared by RMIT University, City of Melbourne and the University of Melbourne (UoM). This studio looks at the geographic area between RMIT and UoM. It proposes the question: what could this Urban Innovation District be?

The Urban Innovation District is a loose and informal mosaic of communities and industry, not served by any locally focused spines or pathways. The new Metro line will change to this area by expanding the ability of people to access this District.

The Urban Innovation District is air marked as a site for start-ups, high-tech innovation, design-led entrepreneurialism and creative expressions.

This Creative Critical Concerns studio, will explore the future of this District from a micro to a macro perspective, allowing you to explore the possibilities: Utopian, sustainable, technology, urban agriculture, structures, philosophy and narratives.

The projects in the studio will include exploring the designers’ techniques, prototyping, and design as an acupuncture in a site-specific context.
